Back in September 2021, I traveled to Secrets Riviera Cancun in Riviera Maya Mexico. It was totally unexpected as I was actually debating on staying on the Breathless side but I am glad that we chose Secrets – and I think you’re going to love it as much as I did.  This particular Secrets resort is actually located beside Breathless and you have full access to both. Me & my husband love a lively, party atmosphere but also want to relax and this fits our personality the most.  

We decided to have a long awaited couples trip & our honeymoon because when we got married, we did not have a honeymoon nor a wedding. So after 5 years it’s time for us to explore and take trips as a couple. It was also my birthday, so I was really excited about this vacation!  

I have been dying to visit the Cancun/Riviera Maya as this is the destination I sell the most, and of course to experience an all-inclusive resort. If you have been following me, I got my US passport back in 2021 when I became a US citizen. Thus, a trip to Quintana Roo was the first on my list!  

How to get there…

I know September is hurricane season, but we always travel during the first week of the month and never have problems!   First let’s talk on how to get there. The resort is about 35 minutes from Cancun airport, and we booked a private transfer. I highly suggest & always recommend a private transfer as it saves you time, and has a personalized service. Here is a photo of us when we arrived.  

As soon as we arrive in our resort, the security will check the current reservation and see if you are on the arrival list. We were then met with a concierge, took our temperature, gave us a cold towel, and escorted us to a private check-in. If you book Secrets RC, all rooms come with a preferred access. The lounge is air-conditioned and has a bar and snacks. Our room wasn’t ready when we got there so after check-in, we proceeded to have lunch at the Rosewater Grill.  

I absolutely love the pool on the Secrets side, the Rosewater grill has the view of the pool & we are already enjoying our few minutes of arrival process. We don’t have time to waste so we immediately change into our swimwear, have some mango margaritas, and swim in the pool while waiting for our room.  

Our Room…

Around 3pm, we got notified that our room was ready so we went back to the lounge and got our keys. Our butler had our luggage ready, then he escorted us into our room.   We asked & paid for an upgrade but I was BLOWN AWAY with our room when I first saw it. They throw in a birthday surprise, decorated with balloons, and of course a cake!  

Our room category is a Master Oceanfront Swim Out Suite and the view from the swim-out was breathtaking! The featured photo above was taken during sunrise! The room is modern, has a tub, a shower that can fit 2 people, a separate sink for two, a living area, and a separate washroom in the living area. It is definitely bigger than the lead room category and has a huge swim out area than the regular swim out.  

After check-in and a nap, we explored the resort to find which restaurants they have, bars, gift shops, and coffee shops. I think we only had room service that night & went to bed early as we were tired. The next morning we had a buffet breakfast at the Spoon restaurant. I love buffets so we mostly spend our mornings here. They have quite a bit of options of bread, pastries, fruits, meats and some Mexican breakfast too. The other restaurant we tried was the Spumante which is an Italian restaurant. I am not really a fan of this one although the ambience for a birthday dinner was great, the food was not something I loved. They surprised us with a birthday cake too so that helped! Then we also tried the Silk City which is their Asian Restaurant, if you want the Hibachi table you need to have a reservation. We got lucky and got a cancellation the night we went, so we sat on the hibachi table and met new friends!  

The resort has a total of 3 pools and a jacuzzi area, the jacuzzi closes early as we tried to go there around 8 one time and nobody was there and it was definitely not working. You have to take note that Breathless is a party resort, so there are themed nights and on some days there are pool parties. They had a foam party on Thursday when we went but we are already checking out that day so we missed it.  

The Wedding Venues

Now let’s talk about the wedding venue, right in front of our Master Suite, there is a beachfront Gazebo ideal for small weddings. Then there are two rooftop options, one on top of the Bites restaurant overlooking the energy pool then the other one on the xhale side which has a better view of the beach and can accommodate up to 70 people. 

Overall Thoughts…

So far, Secrets Riviera Cancun is perfect for Adults looking for a mix of a party resort & relaxation. We truly enjoyed the themed parties on the breathless side, but we also love the quietness of  Secrets especially at night.
